The Lottery is about an older man, nearing retirement who wins a lottery.

Now that may seem nice, but it is a story about how the winning makes things different. Some of it good, some of it bad. It also has an impact on judgement, on wanting to know, is it because of the money, or is it because of a real bond?

Interesting questions, but you’ll have to read the story to get any answers.
